DMC5 AU (For @whollyconsumed)
[It's not often that Alastor lingers outside of Movieland after paying a visit to his friends on this side of the silver screen, but this time...this time something's wrong. A deeply unnerving type of wrong that's far too familiar. The demon bugs, Empousae, only enter this world to feed a Qlipoth sprout. Checking the news confirms his fears, and gives him a location at that.
Joe, Silvia, and Jet are doing their best to protect people from the wandering demons, but Alastor knows enough to head for the source. He doesn't bring them with him, not for this. Anything else, maybe...but he knows what he's going to see when he gets there, and it's not a sight he wants to inflict on them. Not one he's sure they could handle, spared the horrors of truly gruesome deaths as they have been.
What he sees is what he'd expected. It's a scene from a nightmare. Last time, he'd held back and tried to stay out of things. That had resulted in Mundus, to say nothing of countless innocent lives lost that he might have saved. This time will be different. This time, he'll tear this infernal plant up by the roots if he has a chance, even if it risks all of Hell knowing he's escaped his prison.
The first step to that is loosening those roots. Flying above the carnage of the city, it's easy to spot their weak spots. He's surprised to also see something human shaped moving down there, but the root is the first priority. Calling a replica sword to his hand, he takes a plunging dive down, blade point first, to tear open the straining membrane of the root. It's messy, the boil-like protrusion bursting open in a shower of blood, but it's efficient...and he rather thinks the image it results in, of him kneeling with his sword buried in Qlipoth flesh and surrounded in blood splatters is a striking one. Even if he is going to have to wipe the bloodstains off his armor and clothes.]

[He gestures at the massive root system reaching above the city.]
Is the taproot, while the branches are beneath the city and actually relatively small.

I suppose now we're going underground.
no subject
But before that...there's something I need to pick up.
no subject
What could be important enough for a detour right now?
no subject
[His tone says that yes, that was deliberately vague.]
Well, the rest of me, anyway. I left the physical sword my soul is tied to back at Dante's place so it wouldn't be entirely obvious I was gone. Without it, though, I'm limited in ways I don't think I can afford to be here.

[He swings the Sparda around to let it rest on his back. It's...promising that the blade is listening to his request for it to stay there, right?]
If you do manage it...I think I'll keep a bit of a distance. Don't feel like getting shot at if he jumps to conclusions at seeing a devil with the most feared and coveted weapon since Rodin's own Arm.

[ He motions towards the Sparda. ]
I am not exactly sure how to do it otherwise.

[He sighs and holds out his hand. With a bit of focus, magic congeals in his palm until it forms into a white, crystaline orb.]
Try this. It's just a bit of a spark, but it might be enough to give him a start.

[ V reaches over and takes it, carefully. ]

[ V takes his coat in hand, putting it between his skin and the objet. ]

[ Oh, now V is embarrassed. His cheeks colour slightly. ]

It really would be.
[ He glances the way Dante is. ]
I better go use this.

[He waves, and the air ripples around him as space distorts to carry him back to Devil May Cry for the first time in nearly a decade.
He was right, it doesn't take long. The shop is empty, save for a few of his fellow Devil Arms...more than he remembered, though it does draw his attention that there's one missing. He has to wonder what happened to the pup, but he doesn't have time to stick around and ask the others. Even if he did, there's only so much he can tolerate of Agni and Rudra.
When he returns, following V's trail through the ruined city makes him wonder all over again how flightless people stand it. Going the long way everywhere...but at least there's nothing this far out that's more than a mild nuisance to him. On the other hand, the occasional pests do make for good practice with the Sparda, before he seriously fights with it.]

Once he's found, he leans over him, studying his unconscious body for a moment. It's always strange, to be near this man, who is his brother but not his brother. He can't help but feel the jealousy that Vergil always felt. Shaking his head to become free of it, he sets the white orb on Dante, and watches as he awakens with a start. ]
That was invigorating! The fuck did you do?
[ V just gives a wry smile. ]

Who goes there?
...an ally. Calm down.

Consider me your local expert on invasive species from Hell.
no subject
Honestly, he'd be in worse shape if it didn't.
no subject
If you're asking if it does what I want, though...
[He draws the weapon with a flourish, and the blade moves and reorients itself to form a scythe at the end of the hilt.]
