Complicated homecoming...

It had been years since Alastor had last seen this town, bustling with humans and reeking of demons. It was almost comforting...if not for the fact that he knew his master was here. The master he'd abandoned without a word, who would be fully justified in striking him down for his insubordination. But it wasn't in Alastor's nature to run. He'd had his taste of freedom, now it was time to face the consequences. If he was lucky, maybe he could come out on top this time and be truly free.

But that would be once he entered Devil May Cry, something he would wait until daytime for. He didn't want to catch his master just returning from a demon hunt and ready to shoot anything that had fangs and claws. So in the darkness of the desert night, he stood atop a building across from the Devil Hunter's shop. His senses were attuned for any hint of magic approaching him, but he might not register an ordinary human right away.

She's learned a few things over the years with him. Is he really surprised that she kept the pizza out of reach?

"I'm flattered." She's never seen Dante put a serious effort into anything, maybe she finally would.

No, just disappointed.

"Oughta be. My standards are a hell of a lot higher when I'm not just lookin' for some short-term company."

At least he got to eat most of the pizza?

"You have standards?" She's sorry but that's actually terribly funny to hear come out of his mouth okay. So don't take the snickering as an offense?

He clutches the hand not on her back over his chest and leans back as if in pain.

"You sure know how to wound a guy."

[patricided]

She rolls her eyes and starts to pull back, the position starting to hurt a little.

"I did shoot you in the head twice."

[hellspawnedhero]

"Also said you wouldn't date a demon, and yet..."

He gestures vaguely as she pulls back, trying to refer to the nature of the two she was interested in.

"Lot can change in a decade and a half, huh?"

"You were pretty vocal about not dating someone that shot you in the head."

She knows okay. She kind of jumped the gun a bit when she was a teen.

"You kind of deserved it at the time."

"Can't argue there..."

He scratches the back of his head and coughs awkwardly.

"Ass don't begin to cover it, huh?"

"Not even remotely."

[hellspawnedhero]

"Guess we've both changed."

[patricided]

"Well at least one of us anyway."

[hellspawnedhero]

Is he pouting? Yes, he's pouting.

"Now, when was the last time I gave you a reason to shoot me in the face?"

[patricided]

She grins and pats his cheek.

"Just because I haven't actually done it doesn't mean I haven't thought about it." Okay now she's just teasing him because he's being so gullible.

"Since when do you hold back?"

[patricided]

"Since I stopped being angry at the world."

[hellspawnedhero]

"Then no chance at getting an apology for that stab through the heart, huh?"

[patricided]

"What stab through the heart?" Just look at that picture of innocence Dante. She would never.

"You know the one. You got me good with that."

[patricided]

"The one about standards?"

[hellspawnedhero]

"What else?"

[patricided]

"To date you'd only ever shown minute standards and they were all pizza related."

[hellspawnedhero]

"To date, I've always shot down anyone that wanted to actually date. Lotta things that don't matter so much when they're only there for a night."

[patricided]

"Such as?" She looks somewhat surprised that actually came out of her mouth and then shrugs and takes another bite out of the mostly forgotten slice of pizza she was holding.

"Not that it matters."

"Bein' able to keep up with the kinda life I live, for one."

He points at her with a raised eyebrow, as if that one should've been obvious.

"Not lookin' for someone that's gonna faint every time some ugly beastie comes knocking down the door."

"You're doing that sucking up thing aren't you?"
