Complicated homecoming...

It had been years since Alastor had last seen this town, bustling with humans and reeking of demons. It was almost comforting...if not for the fact that he knew his master was here. The master he'd abandoned without a word, who would be fully justified in striking him down for his insubordination. But it wasn't in Alastor's nature to run. He'd had his taste of freedom, now it was time to face the consequences. If he was lucky, maybe he could come out on top this time and be truly free.

But that would be once he entered Devil May Cry, something he would wait until daytime for. He didn't want to catch his master just returning from a demon hunt and ready to shoot anything that had fangs and claws. So in the darkness of the desert night, he stood atop a building across from the Devil Hunter's shop. His senses were attuned for any hint of magic approaching him, but he might not register an ordinary human right away.

That's why we do them, even if they're not exactly our favorites. We just prefer when the 'finding our prey' part is a bit more active, yanno?

Hey, I'm not complaining about having tips thrown my way! I just wish so many of the local problem demons didn't spend so much time hiding in the woodwork that we pretty much have to wait for them to move first.

[patricided]

[Lady just shakes her head and sighs]

I swear you two have ADD.

I think it might just be a demon thing. We're wired to hunt, that means actively tracking our prey. For us, anyway, there are some demons that hunt with traps, but that's beside the point. Devils like me and Dante just aren't geared to wait for things to happen on their own.

[patricided]

Is that how it works? Does that apply just to bad guys or most things?

Hmmm...that's more variable. Dante seems to like to ignore his problems, but I prefer to take a more active approach to making things work out.

*Just in case she needs a hint about what he means, he leans over to lightly nuzzle her cheek.*

I've gathered that much.

[If nothing else the nuzzle gets her to smile and laugh a little.]

Are you going to purr next too?

Hmmm...I could. Maybe if I were a little more comfortable...

And what would make you more comfortable?

I'm sure I'd enjoy a nice, warm blanket. Especially a soft one.

I think I can do that, if that's what it takes.

[Not like she hadn't been doing that before. Letting go of his hand, she shifts closer to snuggle up again, head back on his shoulder, and her arm across his chest.]

*He drapes his arm over her back as he makes a low rumbling sound that's a very impressive imitation of a cat's purr.*

[There's a beat where she doesn't move bothered and then completely distracted by Alastor purring. Unsurprisingly she laughs and snuggles. She's fine and she wants him to know that.]

Pretty sure you shouldn't be able to do that.

I can make a lot of noises that aren't possible for humans, there are perks to having a flexible anatomy.

[She's just going to burying her face in his chest until her cheeks stop being bright pink okay? okay.]

*...Well, he wasn't really expecting her mind to go directly there. Just. Clearing his throat a bit.*

Of course, most of them aren't really obvious unless you know what I really look like. I wouldn't even be able to stand up in here if I couldn't shapeshift.

[She's still a little pink when she looks up confused. She's got 10 foot ceilings in her loft.]

You're taller than ten feet?

About twelve, not counting the horns. I can move at a crouch pretty well like that, but it's really more convenient all around if I just stick to a human height.

[patricided]

What is with you guys and being ridiculously tall?

[No she is not jealous that all the demons in her life tower over her, nope not at all.]

I dunno, I always thought humans were kind of short.

[patricided]

I'm not short.

Compared to things in the underworld? We have vermin that are fifty feet long. Most of the people are at least the size of a truck, you're not likely to find many demons with personal names that are naturally under seven feet tall unless they used to be human.

[patricided]

I'm perfectly average by human standards. And I'm more than capable of taking down demons two or three times my size.

[And that pout is just going to get bigger, here. She's not short damnit.]

I'm not saying you're not, size isn't everything after all. It's just a different scale down there.

And for what it's worth, part of what I like about humans is that you don't have to be huge or powerful to do amazing things.
