Complicated homecoming...

It had been years since Alastor had last seen this town, bustling with humans and reeking of demons. It was almost comforting...if not for the fact that he knew his master was here. The master he'd abandoned without a word, who would be fully justified in striking him down for his insubordination. But it wasn't in Alastor's nature to run. He'd had his taste of freedom, now it was time to face the consequences. If he was lucky, maybe he could come out on top this time and be truly free.

But that would be once he entered Devil May Cry, something he would wait until daytime for. He didn't want to catch his master just returning from a demon hunt and ready to shoot anything that had fangs and claws. So in the darkness of the desert night, he stood atop a building across from the Devil Hunter's shop. His senses were attuned for any hint of magic approaching him, but he might not register an ordinary human right away.

Because being able to take care of yourself is something to be proud of.

[She raises an eyebrow and sits up on her elbows. Her weight resting entirely on one elbow as she traces his cheek with her fingers.]

I hate it when you do that.

*He tilts his face into that touch, a little surprised by the affectionate gesture but not going to object. It feels nice.*

Well, I'm not too thrilled when you wear them.

[patricided]

[Her fingers still. She hadn't quite expected that, but she doesn't pull away immediately. Her palm flattening against his cheek.]

But I need them.

Not inside, right? And you definitely don't need contacts to cover them up.

My windows are treated to do the same thing. And contacts get fewer stares.

So? Not like they're scared of you because of them, is it?

Not since I was six or seven. Still puts some people off sometimes.

Well, it's their problem if they can't appreciate someone who looks a bit different, isn't it? Especially since it's a pretty difference.

Will you stop saying that. [she pulls her hand back]

Why? I'm serious about liking them.

Because I don't like them.

Does looking a bit strange bother you that much?

It bothers me who I got them from.

[She rolls over and flops back on the bed.]

*He's quiet for a moment before rolling onto his side and putting a hand on her arm.*

I can sympathize with not liking reminders of who you're related to. But sharing an appearance with someone doesn't mean you're the same as them. If anything, hating part of yourself because of a superficial comparison just gives them more power.

Easy to say when your father didn't level a city in pursuit of the power of Sparda, now did he?

...You forget where I'm from? My father was Lord Chronos, the former ruler of the underworld until me and my siblings overthrew him.

My surviving siblings, anyway. He ate all of his 'creations' that disappointed him. And he probably would've leveled a city to get his claws on Sparda's power, if Sparda had existed back then.

[patricided]

[She turns her head, her lips tipped up in amusement.]

So should I be investing in body sized condoms or something?

*And now he's moving his hand from her arm to his face.*

The myths were exaggerated, thanks. I know how to avoid accidental kids. Besides, I can't even turn into a swan or a shower of gold.

[She just laughs and rolls back toward him to pull his hand from his face.]

I don't think the Greeks really cared what you could and couldn't do. And considering the myths can you really blame me for asking?

Come on, do you really think I'm the kind of guy who'd trick my way into someone's bed or leave some poor human to take care of a halfbreed kid on her own?

No I don't. If you were I would have kicked you out by now. Possibly with a few bullet holes to show for it.

Then that right there should tell you the myths are bogus. I won't say I didn't flirt, but...would you believe this is actually the closest I've ever been with a human?
