Complicated homecoming...

It had been years since Alastor had last seen this town, bustling with humans and reeking of demons. It was almost comforting...if not for the fact that he knew his master was here. The master he'd abandoned without a word, who would be fully justified in striking him down for his insubordination. But it wasn't in Alastor's nature to run. He'd had his taste of freedom, now it was time to face the consequences. If he was lucky, maybe he could come out on top this time and be truly free.

But that would be once he entered Devil May Cry, something he would wait until daytime for. He didn't want to catch his master just returning from a demon hunt and ready to shoot anything that had fangs and claws. So in the darkness of the desert night, he stood atop a building across from the Devil Hunter's shop. His senses were attuned for any hint of magic approaching him, but he might not register an ordinary human right away.

[Her fork stops halfway to her mouth and she purses her lips.]

...I guess I deserved that.

*He raises an eyebrow.*

What do-oh. No, it's not that. I think we kinda put that behind us when we shared takeout over a movie.

I was just a little worried you'd be feeling sick after last night and not up to a full meal.

[She nods and continues to eat after a moment. She's slow about it on the chance that her stomach isn't up to more than coffee after all. She isn't exactly unaware of what the headache she woke up with and the empty spaces in her memory mixed with fuzz mean.]

How bad was I?

[She sounds a mix of concerned and apologetic, not quite meeting his eyes while she twirls her fork.]

*Is he turning a bit violet? Yes, yes he is. And seems very interested in his own food.*

Well, has anyone ever told you you're a very affectionate drunk?

[The fork stills, and she drops her chin into her other hand.]

You would be the first, and I'm not sure how to feel about that.

*He prods at his pancakes a bit and clears his throat.*

You, uh...weren't exactly subtle with it, either. You even, um...

*He really should tell her, but give him a second. He's blushing even more now.*

[Alastor you're confusing her. And that blush is not helping anything at all. It's kind of scaring her.]

It'd be easier to just forget what happened if alcohol made you affectionate in general.

*Well...no point drawing it out.*

You tried to kiss me a couple times. You actually caught me off guard with it the first time so I, um. Well, I figured you wouldn't want me to let it last, even if I didn't react in time to keep you from doing it in the first place.

I don't make a point of getting drunk when I drink, if I drink.

[She'd just put another piece of pancake in her mouth too when he spits it out and she coughs, the piece lodging awkwardly in the back of her throat a moment before coming loose. Sipping at her coffee she finishes chewing and swallows.]

I kissed you? ...Was there tongue?

N-no, I didn't...really give it time to go anywhere.

*He wanted to, but he didn't.*

Didn't want to go along with something you were just doing because you'd had too much to drink, you know?

I see. That's...that was ...

[Actually she doesn't really know what that was. And the conflict over that rolls off her.]

Yeah that would suck.

But I managed to get you to go to sleep before you could really do anything else you'd regret, at least...

By...uh...promising to stay with you. That's why you were using me as a pillow when you woke up.

[Awkward. So awkward. On the one hand way to go drunk her on the other for fricks sake drunk self.]

Thanks for promising that. I probably wasn't in any condition to protect myself if I had needed to.

Probably not, no. That's...actually kind of why I came over in the first place. I got a text from you and could tell you were drunk, so I was kinda worried you'd have a problem if you got into some sort of trouble.

You didn't have to do that.

[She's quiet a moment.]

[She's just going to back to eating her pancakes now.]

Don't worry about it. It...um... *Poke poke at food.* Would've been kind of nice, if I hadn't only been there because you were drunk.

[blink Oh um how does she answer that? She picks up her coffee to buy some time and takes a large sip. It was nice when she woke up this morning...]

We'll just uh have to see what happens.

How's the coffee, by the way? I don't use coffee makers very often, so I wasn't sure I used the right amount.

It's alright. Could be a little stronger, but it's drinkable.

[The creamer helped make it a little closer to what she usually made herself, but it was good enough given what he just said.]

Huh. With how strong it smells, you'd think you wouldn't need quite so much. But I'll keep that in mind next time.
